MEC Grievance Update March 2009
By: Deborah Sutor AFA MEC Grievance Chair
Junior Man Pay:
Sideletter H, paragraph 9., requires the company
to provide Flight Attendants the same increase
in junior manning pay as the pilots, should they
receive one. Many of you may be aware that the
pilots have recently concluded negotiations. As
part of their new contract, the following
agreement was reached with regard to junior man
pay:
- Minimum
Pay on a Day Off
A pilot who is junior manned on a day off
will receive pay above guarantee for the
greater of one hundred fifty percent (150%)
of his flight hourly rate for all such hours
flown or four (4) hours at his flight hourly
rate.
I have
conferred with the Company and they have
confirmed that the computer has been
programmed to provide this increase to
Flight Attendants as well.
Deadhead Report Time and Pay:
Section 7, paragraph B.3. reads as follows:
- B.3. If a Flight Attendant’s first leg of
her/his duty period is a deadhead, other
than at her/his domicile, report time shall
be thirty minutes (:30) prior to scheduled
block-out time.
This language was new to our agreement.
Previously, report time on any deadhead leg
was thirty minutes prior to block out time.
Under the new contract language, report time
at domicile only, was changed to one hour
(1:00) prior to scheduled block out time. At
locations other than at your own domicile,
the report time is still thirty (:30)
minutes prior to scheduled block out time.
Through Flight Attendant reports, AFA
learned that the computer had not been
programmed to recognize the new one hour
(1:00) report time at domicile. Thus, your
duty time and per diem was not tracking
properly either. The Company has assured AFA
that the programming has been corrected and
completed. Should you experience any further
problems please notify you Local Council
President or another AFA representative
immediately.
